Omicron covid-19 variant
There are more than 2.8 million confirmed cases of coronavirus worldwide now, and more than 50 countries have reported at least 1,000 deaths related to COVID-19. The World Health Organization (WHO) also reports over 879,000 patients have lost their lives till and nearly 14.7 million people and businesses have been affected by this disease. Despite the severe toll from COVID-19 across the globe, it appears that vaccines could potentially provide protection against the new SARS-CoV-2 variant causing a range of symptoms. Pfizer’s, Modern a’s, and AstraZeneca’s, among others, are the Vaccines currently being used in the U.S.
Research shows on COVID-19 vaccines is still quite limited, with
only about 15% of scientists participating in clinical trials and Phase 3
studies (test results that involve many participants) reporting a successful
vaccine efficacy. This does not mean that there will be no success in
developing new products for prevention. Several recent publications show promise
but none have yet been peer-reviewed in full. the United Kingdom, South Africa,
and Brazil” found that while antibodies that recognize the spike protein did
not detect these two variants. I believe that such findings would change how we
view the vaccine. However, several studies in both humans and animals have
shown promising results using other antibodies as well as multiple other types
of vaccine candidates.
If those who have been infected do become infectious, then even
those who have previously received vaccine infection can unwittingly pass the
virus for a longer period to others. Such conditions are already happening
today with the Delta variant. And with new mutations of the virus continually
emerging, even if scientists identify and understand them, Different versions
of the same variant will develop in near future. These viruses constantly exist
within our environment and cannot be easily controlled. At my age, I am
currently working out regularly and taking my medication daily.
As we know, people are more susceptible to falling seriously ill
than they are to falling ill when first infected by these variants. One can
assume that the most vulnerable — including doctors and nurses — may be among
the top ten targets for a newly emerging version of the virus during the coming
months. Some experts believe that the risk of getting the virus falls with each
strain. Regardless of their specific risks, the CDC warns that the safety of
the vaccine becomes highly critical to prevent potential side effects in
high-risk groups.
It looks like we are now headed towards another round of
lockdowns, restrictions, and school closures in the U.S. and elsewhere. For me,
I think that we need to stay vigilant if we want to avoid more widespread death
and illness due to COVID-19. People will need to make sure that they wear
masks, wash their hands often, maintain safe social distancing guidelines and
work from home whenever possible. I suppose that we can say that we will
probably start wearing masks again when schools reopen for in-person classes.
